MISSION FIVE: eBay of Pigs
‘The poorest person in the world is not one who lacks money, but one who lacks access to a motivational speaker.’
- North American proverb
Welcome to Mission Five of INVOKE.
FIRST, read the story. Click on the image below to advance to the next page.
(You can read the EVOKE comic which INVOKE’s borrows the art and some text from, on their website.)
NOW, play the mission!
The world’s GDP is more than $70 trillion US. And yet, 3 billion people currently live on less than $2 a day. Our global economic system leaves half the world’s population dangerously underserved.
And that half of the world’s population includes people just like you. Capitalism has brought great wealth but now your middle class Western lifestyle is under threat – and the only way to defend it is to get more of those 2-dollar folk making you things!
That’s why this week your mission is to help restore capitalism in Cuba. Your challenge is to match innovative global corporations with national Cuban industries, social services, assets and intellectual properties. Vaccine technology, healthcare, education, beaches, cigars, mojito recipes, the Buena Vista Social Club… all these and more are up for sale, and the world needs you to find buyers.
To play this mission, post a comment detailing your idea for which Cuban industry or asset you’d like to see sold off and which corporation you think should buy it, and why.
If you find yourself having trouble with this task, please refer to the INVOKE game manual. Note that only game-playing comments to this post will be accepted. Post any general comments here.
