MISSION SIX: Debt Becomes Her

April 14, 2010

‘Equality is not easy, but cultivating a smug air of superiority
is no walk in the park either. Eat organic!’

– East Village proverb

Welcome to Mission Six of INVOKE. The womyn’s issue.

FIRST, read the story by clicking on the image below:

NOW, play the mission!

“Engaging women equally with men in all aspects of life is imperative for economically competitive and prosperous societies.”— the Global Gender Gap 2009 Report

This week’s mission challenges you to help empower women. Raise your voice in support of equal rights for women so that society can be economically competitive.

Yesterday’s women demanded expensive dinners, flowers and diamond rings. These days in our globalised world it has become much cheaper and easier to give a woman what she wants: a goat, a pile of mud bricks, a leadership school…

For men, there’s a valuable lesson here about dating Third World ladies: give a woman a bunch of flowers and she’ll eat for a day – but give a woman a packet of seeds and a hoe and she’ll be empowered to grow and sell her own for at least a month before she descends into debt. And when she comes back to you expecting more gifts or child support payments, just shrug it off and spin some shit about her having equal rights and economic opportunity!

This week your mission is to post a comment telling us what you would buy your South Asian lady to emancipate her from oppressive patriarchy.

If you find yourself having trouble with this task, please refer to the INVOKE game manual. Note that only game-playing comments to this post will be accepted. Post any general comments here.

I’d buy her a new iPad so she can learn to trade CWO derivatives with leverage, CWO stands for Collaterlized Woman Obligation. You take lots of micro-loans and chop them up into a bag of sausage that is statistically impossible to default! Let the bidding begin!

I would give my Asian lady a pair of roller skates, because it’s true what they say about roller derby: it’s empowering!

If you don’t believe me, feel free to read my doctoral dissertation entitled:
“Roller Derby and Cognitive Dissonance: An Extended and Exceptionalist Justification of Why Tarty Exhibitionism by Educated Middle-Class Hipsters is In Fact Empowering And Isn’t the Objectification of Women in Advertising a Disgrace”

    @kipstar

The SF Bay Area has a roller derby league founded by women as a non-profit. Come on up here and tell them how un-liberated they are. Or how they’re all middle-class. Or why they shouldn’t own their own sexuality and instead should listen to how proper ladies should act by people who know better than they do.

You sir, are a paragon of white liberal guilt. kudos.

Today’s lead headline: Bay Area resident can tell what race people are from a post that doesn’t divulge that information. Next news at nine!

Keep swinging that crowbar, class warrior.

Context is everything. For example, I didn’t say one HAD to be white to have it (though I’m sure it helps). You might not know or understand what I’m referring to, Payladin. You could google it, but they’re a multinational corporation, so I imagine you’d hate that. Maybe the Encyclopedia Brittanica? I don’t know.

Class warrior. What an interesting concept. Is that where you assume what class someone is by their propensity to wear a tank top and rollerskates? If so, I’m sadly no class warrior.

That means you just won the class wars! Go you!

Thanks for the invite, Ariock! I’d love to come down to your Bay Area skating rink, crack open aVitamin Water and perve at some bad grrrl ass with you.

(BTW do you think one of them will sleep with me if I tell them I’m a feminist?)

“white liberal guilt”. That must be it! There’s no other possible explanation for having a problem with roller derby. Its totally liberating and people who have a problem with it just want to lock women indoors.

This is easy, let me try – The ‘artists’ who perform for Suicide Girls are totally in charge of their destiny, and its “white liberal guilt” that makes people have a problem with it. They own their own sexuality, and aren’t acting like proper ladies. Sisters are doing it for themselves!

Omg, you’re SOO WRONG Christian. Cuz only BOYZ like pornography. All girls hate it. And we all know that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. Aren’t you a good little Republican! Next you can ban the gays from getting married!

Though you’ve got me on the Suicide Girls. They do suck. Damnit, another win for the class warriors! At this rate you’ll have all the class warrior internet points and I’ll have none.

Context is everything! So: Your main concern reacting to a targeted parody of a website/game that hideously trivialises several centuries of tooth-and-nail feminist and postcolonial political struggle is to defend in knee-jerk “Come over here and say that!” fashion a particular American cultural form (beneficiary of previously mentioned struggles in the same sense that G-Sax benefited from Greece – think about it) rather than adding anything substantive to the discussion.

You also seem to be someone from the Bay Area who implies they psychically know people’s race and their extended opinions on multinational corporations from brief forum postings. Further, you seem to have opinions on how people in the third world should govern their water and that any grievances they may have are somehow constitutively anti-progress – almost as if technocratic hand-waving has never been used as political leverage. Excuse me for giving you the benefit of the doubt as being a class warrior (or a forum psychic! OOOOH!), as opposed to a routine trollish cretin. Won’t make that mistake again.

@arirock is right – I know I always feel so much more empowered when the stuff I do is not for profit. I’ve recently kicked it up a notch and decided to start stripping for excercise, fun & liberation. The fact that guys get off on it is totally beside the point. When I’m on stage and fellating that large, strong, mighty pole, I know I’m making the world a better place. I’m not just doing it for me either, I’m doing it for those young girls out there who need a strong role model; a feminist who isn’t afraid of their own sexuality to teach them that it’s okay to be yourself and liberate yourself from your pants – the key thing to remember here, as always, is to keep it not-for-profit. There is nothing more cynical than a prositute who insists on being paid. It just ruins the spirit of sisterhood, don’t you agree?

You just called people you don’t even know prostitutes.

      I’m done here.

You are parodies of yourselves now.

      Congratulations.

Damn, this has been a good day.

      Thanks all!
